Web Site Hackers Freed From Jail In Chile Hackers around the world can no longer go Scott free. The law is catching up and both Carlos Amigo and Leonardo Hernandez have known just that. SSH-2 alias Carlos Amigo, who is 37 and Nettoxic alias Leonardo Hernandez, who is 23, have been accused of belonging to a team of hackers that have hacked into more than 8000 websites around the world. SSH-2 and Nettoxic are the online nicknames of these two hackers. They have admitted to misdemeanor but say they have not committed any serious crime. Amigo and Hernandez were arrested on November 7th along with their two under aged friends. Codiux and Phnx who are supposed to be twins were not identified or jailed as they were under aged. The team is accused of being a part of the hacking attempt into the websites of US Space agency NASA and other government sites. The breaking into of more than 8000 websites around the world is being investigated and arrests are being made due to the results of eight months of investigation. The arrests were with t he help of authorities in the United States, Israel and several South American countries. The lawyer for Amigo and Hernandez, Andres Morales acknowledged that the men gained access to a large number of Web pages but asserted that they did not damage any files or servers. The entire hacking attempt was for fun so that they can brag about their computer capacities. He asked to them to be freed as they did not commit any serious crime. The Santiago Court of Appeals ruled that they be released from prison but gave a deadline of 90 days for the prosecutor in the case to file charges. Till then it ruled that Amigo and Hernandez stay away from computers. They were also prohibited from leaving the country anytime during the 90 days. They must appear weekly before corrections officials as well. |
